What is Balatro

Balatro is a poker roguelike, although I don't think this description alone does it justice

It's really a game about doing everything you can to keep meeting demand with an ever increasing score with what you happen to find to help you along the way

Ok, but like what is it about for real then?

To win, you need to win 8 consecutive* antes

Each ante has 3 Blinds you need* to go through in order to proceed to the next ante

(*You can choose to skip the Small Blind and Big Blind)

Each blind has a score requirement you need to beat that keeps on increasing

You need to reach the score before running out of Hands!

You can use your Discards to draw better cards and form poker hands to score during the round

But you'll soon find yourself outmatched by the requirements, how do you keep yourself afloat?

Jokers are cards you can buy in the shop after beating a Blind that give special effects to help you while playing

There are of course other types of cards that you'll have to look forward to finding in-game!

Why I love it

I heard of the game lots before, but I unfortunately rarely take try new games, but one fateful day the planets aligned

Funnily enough though, the main thing that convinced me was the OST, I would listen to it whenever I was coding this website, it faded in the background perfectly

I especially love InstrumentManiac's amazing cover, it's just so addictive and mesmerizing (It's also in the playlist of the music player above)

I gave this game a try in like January and I swear 2 months went by in the blink of an eye so you know be careful :sob:

This game has a death grip on me, everytime I feel like i'm moving on something else catches my attention, the timeline was kinda something like this:

Balatro > Unlock Everything > Gold Stake > Cryptid > Multiplayer (unoffical) with friends > Modding the game > Making this shrine

I might even have to add another entry here at some point... at least I've gotten a lot better at pixel art! And all of these things have been a ton of fun

My favorite part of the game is definitely trying to make what you have work to make it all the way, it's really wonderfully balanced even if some strats are a little better than others

Oh also I'm in love with it's UI and general presentation

Now normally in a shrine like this I think i'd put my stats or something, but I didn't know about profiles and played Cryptid on my main and ruined the stats...

So instead I'll make a list!

I watched It's MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica back to back and I have to say, absolute cinema, I loved it so much and I highly recommend you (yes you) to watch it too!

The moment I saw the playing cards in the opening of Ave Mujica in the middle of my Balatro obsession, I knew it was fate
